Den robuste tårn med spidsen kan ses fra langt væk. Det første gudshus daterer sig til 1225. Da befolkningen hurtigt voksede i det 14. århundrede, blev den nuværende hallenkirke bygget. I det 18. århundrede kunne det poverte Damme ikke længere betale reparationerne af den nedslidte Vor Frue Kirke. Man rev en del af skibet, tværskibet og tårnspidsen ned (1725-1727). Buearkaden i midtergangen blev bevaret som støtte til tårnet.
Fra den 43 m høje tårn har man en unik panoramaudsigt. Kirken og tårnet kan begge ses.
