På anmodning af kong Leopold II designede Henri Maquet i 1900 den første Kongelige gang: en L-formet, lukket og overdækket forbindelse mellem det kongelige chalet og en stor salon i oktagonal form. Galleriet kendes nu under navnet ‘Veneziaanske Gange’, som henviser til den klassicistiske arkitektur i Venedig. Da den kongelige familie besluttede ikke længere at bruge deres opholdssted ved havet, fik byen Oostende hele komplekset i concession. Det skulle have en kulturel bestemmelse. De veneziaanske gange blev renoveret i 1998 – 1999 og er nu et udstillingsrum.
