A solicitud del rey Leopoldo II, Henri Maquet diseñó en 1900 la primera galería real: una conexión cubierta y cerrada en forma de L entre el chalet real y un gran salón de forma octogonal. La galería es conocida ahora como las ‘Galerías Venecianas’, refiriéndose a la arquitectura clasicista de Venecia. Cuando la familia real decidió dejar de utilizar su residencia en la playa, la ciudad de Ostende recibió todo el complejo en concesión. Debía tener un destino cultural. Las Galerías Venecianas fueron renovadas en 1998 - 1999 y ahora son un espacio de exposiciones.
