Auf Anfrage von König Leopold II. entwarf Henri Maquet im Jahr 1900 die erste königliche Galerie: eine L-förmige, geschlossene und überdachte Verbindung zwischen dem königlichen Chalet und einem großen Salon in achteckiger Form. Die Galerie ist heute unter dem Namen ‚Venetianische Galerien‘ bekannt, was auf die klassizistische Architektur von Venedig verweist. Als die königliche Familie beschloss, ihre Unterkunft am Meer nicht länger zu nutzen, erhielt die Stadt Ostende das gesamte Gelände in Pacht. Es sollte einen kulturellen Zweck erhalten. Die Venetianischen Galerien wurden 1998 – 1999 renoviert und sind jetzt ein Ausstellungsraum.
