Når den amerikanske luftvåben bombede jernbaneinstallationerne den 9. maj 1944, blev den smukke villa af Oscar Coomans de Brachène helt brændt ned. På det tidspunkt var 'slot Fontaine' blevet besat af 12. SS-panserdivision Hitlers ungdom. Blandt de tyske soldater, der opholdt sig her, var der ingen ofre den dag. Dette var tilfældet i den nærliggende 'uddannelsesskole', hvor mere end halvtreds tyske soldater omkom. Efter krigen blev den ødelagte bygning revet ned, og mellem 1946 og 1948 byggede familien Coomans de Brachène et nyt slot i neorenæssancestil.
