Als die amerikanische Luftwaffe am 9. Mai 1944 die Bahnstationen bombardierte, wurde die schöne Villa von Oscar Coomans de Brachène vollständig in Schutt und Asche gelegt. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt war das „Schloss Fontaine“ von der 12. SS-Panzerdivision Hitlerjugend in Beschlag genommen worden. Unter den deutschen Soldaten, die hier verweilten, gab es an diesem Tag keine Opfer. Dies war jedoch in der nahegelegenen „Lehranstalt“ der Fall, wo mehr als siebzig deutsche Soldaten starben. Nach dem Krieg wurde das zerstörte Gebäude abgerissen und zwischen 1946 und 1948 wurde von der Familie Coomans de Brachène ein neues Schloss im neorenaissancistischen Stil gebaut.
