Det er fødestedet og hvilepladsen for François Mitterrand, præsident for Frankrig fra 1981 til 1995. Jarnac ligger på højre bredd af floden Charente mellem Angoulême og Cognac. Det ligger cirka 20 km vest for Angoulême og cirka 10 km øst for Cognac.
