Cahors er hovedstaden i Lot-departementet. I dag er det et populært turistcenter, hvor folk kommer for at nyde sin middelalderkvarter og den unikke befæstede Valentré-bro fra det 14. århundrede. Det var også berygtet i middelalderen for at have bankfolk, der opkrævede renter på deres lån. Kirken sagde på den tid, at det var en synd at bruge penge som et mål i sig selv. På grund af dette blev Cahors synonymt med denne synd og nævnt i Dantes Inferno (XI.50) sammen med Sodom som ond.
