Cahors est la préfecture du département du Lot. Aujourd'hui, c'est un centre touristique populaire où les gens viennent profiter de son quartier médiéval et du pont fortifié Valentré unique du XIVe siècle. Il était également infâme au Moyen Âge pour avoir des banquiers qui facturaient des intérêts sur leurs prêts. L'Église à cette époque disait que l'utilisation de l'argent comme un but en soi était un péché. À cause de cela, Cahors est devenu synonyme de ce péché et a été mentionné dans l'Enfer de Dante (XI.50) aux côtés de Sodome comme étant maléfique.
