Cahors es la capital del departamento de Lot. Hoy en día, es un popular centro turístico donde la gente viene a disfrutar de su casco antiguo medieval y el único puente fortificado Valentré del siglo XIV. También fue infame en la Edad Media por tener banqueros que cobraban intereses por sus préstamos. La iglesia en esos tiempos decía que utilizar el dinero como un fin en sí mismo era un pecado. Debido a esto, Cahors se convirtió en sinónimo de este pecado y fue mencionada en el Infierno de Dante (XI.50) junto a Sodoma como malvada.
