The small village of Bétharram was once primarily known as a place of pilgrimage near Lourdes and prior to it. This explains the presence today of a sanctuary and a calvary.
Since almost eight centuries, the Virgin is worshipped in Bétharram under several very popular names.
Within the confines of a building of the sanctuary, the Pères de Bétharram heritage museum brings together a motley collection of objects: coins and banknotes, minerals and fossils, prehistoric and lithic industry, embroidery, sculptures and paintings, crafts. Inaugurated in 1936, it aims is to explain that the congregation has a missionary purpose, in connection with the very first mission that took place in China, before spreading in other countries.
