Fader Armand David er en stor fransk naturforsker, der har registreret tusindvis af dyr og planter i Kina. For kineserne er han pandaens far. Han stammer fra Espelette, som kommunen netop har anlagt et ungt arboret, hvor der kun plantes træer fra Kina, der bærer betegnelsen "davidii", "davidiana" eller "davidia". En smuk gåtur at tage omkring slottet i Espelette.
