De vader Armand David is een grote Franse naturalist die duizenden dieren en planten in China heeft gecatalogiseerd. Voor de Chinezen is hij de vader van de panda. Afkomstig uit Espelette, heeft de gemeente recentelijk een jonge arboretum aangelegd waar uitsluitend bomen uit China zijn geplant, met de benaming "davidii", "davidiana" of "davidia". Een mooie wandeling te maken rond het kasteel van Espelette.
