Vidste du, at bjergpasset Stelvio blev officielt åbnet i 1825 under overvågning af kejser Ferdinand. Dette faktum er knyttet til en interessant geopolitisk historie. Det Habsburgske Imperium havde 10 år tidligere (i 1815) fået herredømmet over Lombardiet ved Wienerkongressen. Derfor anså man det som nødvendigt at kunne nå Lombardiet "hurtigt". Man byggede således en vej fra Valtellina til Val Ventoso. Ved færdiggørelsen havde 2500 mænd arbejdet i 5 år under ledelse af arkitekten Carlo Donegani fra Brescia.
