Wusstest du, dass der Gebirgspass Stelvio im Jahr 1825 offiziell unter dem Blick von Kaiser Ferdinand eröffnet wurde? An dieser Tatsache hängt eine interessante geopolitische Geschichte. Das Habsburgerreich hatte 10 Jahre zuvor (im Jahr 1815) auf dem Wiener Kongress die Herrschaft über Lombardei erlangt. Daher hielt man es für notwendig, Lombardei "zügig" erreichen zu können. Man baute also einen Weg von Valtellina nach Val Ventoso. Bei der Fertigstellung hatten 2500 Männer 5 Jahre daran gearbeitet unter der Leitung des Architekten Carlo Donegani aus Brescia.
