Sapevate che il Passo dello Stelvio fu inaugurato ufficialmente nel 1825 sotto l'occhio dell'imperatore Ferdinando? C'è un'interessante storia geopolitica legata a questo fatto. L'Impero asburgico aveva ottenuto il dominio della Lombardia 10 anni prima (nel 1815) al Congresso di Vienna. Ed è per questo che si è ritenuto necessario poter raggiungere "facilmente" la Lombardia. Fu così costruita una strada che dalla Valtellina portava alla Val Ventoso. Al momento del completamento, 2500 uomini vi avevano lavorato per 5 anni sotto la direzione dell'architetto bresciano Carlo Donegani.
