Wist je dat de bergpas Stelvio in 1825 officieel geopend werd onder het oog van keizer Ferdinand. Aan dit feit hangt een interessant geopolitieke geschiedenis. Het Habsburgse Rijk had 10 jaar voordien (in 1815) bij het Congres van Wenen de heerschappij gekregen van Lombardije. En daarom vond men het noodzakelijk om "vlot" Lombardije te kunnen bereiken. Men bouwde dus een weg van Valtellina naar Val Ventoso. Bij afwerking hadden 2500 mannen er 5 jaar aan gewerkt onder leiding van de architect Carlo Donegani uit Brescia.
