Det er en gammel Maasarm, der parallelt med Maas, men vest for den, historisk set afledte det overskydende Maasvand. Mellem 1993 og 1995 var der høje vandstande, og denne Maasarm førte til vandoverlast. I 1995 blev denne arm afskåret med kajer. Dette medførte dog, at hovedlejet af Maas ved højvande igen blev overbelastet.
