Der Ziegenpark liegt am 'Großen Bassin', einem Wasserspeicherbecken, das 1863-1865 angelegt wurde. Das Große Bassin ist das größte Stück Grün im Zentrum von Roeselare. Die Ziegen wussten das anscheinend schon viel früher – daher der Name! Im Park befindet sich der Standort der Bogenschützen-Gilde 'Sint Sebastiaan' – daher auch die Bezeichnungen 'Sint Sebastiaanspark' und die 'Gaaipersstraat' in der Nähe.
