Wohnung des Gentse Geschichtsschreibers und Faktors (= Dichter-Vorsitzender) der Reiterkammer Maria T'Heeren, Marcus van Vaernewyck (1518-1569). Seine bekanntesten Werke sind die Historie von Belgis (= Flandern) und sein Augenzeugenbericht über den Bildersturm in Von den bewegten Zeiten in den Niederlanden und insbesondere in Gent 1566-1568. An der Giebelfront steht seit 1880 sein Brustbild, darunter sein Wahlspruch "Laet vaeren nydt", gestützt von der Schwänzen zweier Delphine (Symbol für Ansehen und Kampfgeist). Im 17. Jahrhundert war das Haus als De bonte mantele bekannt.
