Das Bahnhofsgebäude stammt aus dem Jahr 1840 und ist das älteste noch bestehende Bahnhofsgebäude in Belgien und im europäischen Festland. Es war ein ausgewogenes Gebäude mit einem hohen zentralen Teil mit Giebel und auf jeder Seite einem ebenerdigen Anbau, die alle drei denselben Rhythmus aufwiesen: Fenster, Tür, Fenster, Tür, Fenster. Durch die vielen Umbauten ab Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts ist allerdings die gesamte Symmetrie und Ausstrahlung des Gebäudes verloren gegangen. Auch im Inneren wurde das Gebäude regelmäßig an die Bedürfnisse der Zeit angepasst, sodass wenig oder gar nichts von der ursprünglichen Architektur übrig geblieben ist.
