Das Boudewijnkanal wurde zwischen 1896 und 1905 gegraben. Es hieß damals: Kanal Brügge-Zeebrügge. 1953 wurde das Kanal zu Ehren des Besuchs von König Baudouin in Boudewijnkanal umbenannt. Es verläuft durch das gesamte Hafenbereich von Brügge-Zeebrügge und verbindet den Zeebrügger Vorhafen mit dem Brügger Binnenhafen. Es bietet Zeebrügge zudem eine Binnenwasserstraße über den Brügger Ringkanal und das Kanal Gent-Brügge. Über seine gesamte Länge ist es etwa 12 Kilometer lang und befindet sich vollständig innerhalb der Stadtgrenzen von Brügge.
