Das Blatt der Wintereiche (Quercus petraea) ist eirund bis oval, mit regelmäßigen Lappen. Die Wintereiche darf nicht mit der Sommer-Eiche verwechselt werden, mit der sie gut aussieht. Der Unterschied: Das Blatt der Wintereiche hat einen Stiel, die Eicheln haben keinen Stiel. Bei der Sommer-Eiche ist es genau umgekehrt.
Die Blätter der Wintereiche werden manchmal von der Eichen-Prozessionsraupe gefressen. Die Brennhaare dieser Raupe können bei Menschen und Tieren zu starken Reizungen führen.
