War vor dem Zweiten Weltkrieg ein Sanatorium für kranke Kinder aus der Textilindustrie in Gent. An diesem Ort wurde später die Residenz Astrid erbaut. Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs nutzten die deutschen Soldaten das Gebäude als Unterkunft für ihre Soldaten, die Batterien besetzten. Das Gebäude wurde stark beschädigt und konnte nicht mehr als Sanatorium genutzt werden. Bis 1967 wurde das Gebäude als wijk Schule Duinen genutzt. Im Schuljahr 1967-1968 zog die Schule an ihren aktuellen Standort in der Schoollaan (nahe dem Rathaus) um.
