1720 ließ der Herzog von Estrées im Bois de Boulogne anstelle eines kleinen Häuschens einen Lustpavillon errichten. Das Anwesen wurde zu einem berühmten Ort der Libertinage und erhielt den Spitznamen "Bagatelle". Im Jahr 1775 verliebte sich der Graf von Artois in das Anwesen und wettete mit seiner Schwägerin Marie-Antoinette, dass er das Gebäude innerhalb von zwei Monaten in ein Schloss verwandeln würde. Das Schloss Bagatelle wurde am 21. September 1777 begonnen und pünktlich am 26. November desselben Jahres eingeweiht. Heute ist es ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel für Besucher, das für seinen wunderschönen Rosengarten und seine kulturellen Veranstaltungen (Ausstellungen, Konzerte usw.) bekannt ist.
