Nel 1720, il duca di Estrées fece costruire una casa di piacere nel Bois de Boulogne al posto di una casetta. La proprietà divenne quindi un famoso luogo di libertinaggio e prese il soprannome di "Bagatelle". Nel 1775, il conte di Artois si lasciò incantare dal luogo e scommise con la cognata Maria Antonietta di trasformare l'edificio in un castello entro due mesi. Iniziato il 21 settembre 1777, il castello di Bagatelle fu inaugurato puntualmente il 26 novembre dello stesso anno. Oggi è un luogo popolare per le passeggiate dei visitatori, rinomato per il suo magnifico roseto e per gli eventi culturali (mostre, concerti, ecc.).
