En 1720, el duque de Estrées hizo construir en el Bois de Boulogne una casa de recreo en lugar de una casita. La propiedad se convirtió entonces en un famoso lugar de libertinaje y adoptó el sobrenombre de "Bagatelle". En 1775, el conde de Artois cayó bajo el hechizo del lugar e hizo una apuesta con su cuñada María Antonieta para transformar el edificio en un castillo en el plazo de dos meses. Iniciado el 21 de septiembre de 1777, el castillo de Bagatelle se inauguró puntualmente, el 26 de noviembre del mismo año. Hoy en día, es un lugar de paseo muy frecuentado por los visitantes, famoso por su magnífica rosaleda y sus eventos culturales (exposiciones, conciertos, etc.).
