In 1720, the Duke of Estrées had a pleasure house built in the Bois de Boulogne instead of a small house. The property then became a famous place of libertinage and took the nickname of "Bagatelle". In 1775, the Count of Artois fell under the spell of the place and made a bet with his sister-in-law Marie-Antoinette to transform the building into a castle within two months. Begun on September 21, 1777, the Bagatelle Castle was inaugurated on time, on November 26 of the same year. Today, it is a popular place for visitors to stroll, renowned for its magnificent rose garden and cultural events (exhibitions, concerts, etc.).
