Die Lesesaal des Britischen Museums, der sich im Zentrum des Großen Hofes des Britischen Museums befindet, war einst der Hauptlesesaal der British Library. Im Jahr 1997 wurde diese Funktion in das neue Gebäude der British Library in St Pancras, London, verlegt, aber der Lesesaal bleibt in seiner ursprünglichen Form im Britischen Museum.
Entworfen von Sydney Smirke und 1857 eröffnet, war der Lesesaal bis zu seiner vorübergehenden Schließung zur Renovierung im Jahr 1997 durchgehend in Gebrauch. Er wurde 2000 wiedereröffnet und von 2007 bis 2014 für temporäre Ausstellungen genutzt. Er ist seitdem geschlossen, während die zukünftige Nutzung weiterhin diskutiert wird.
