Das Krankenhaus hat seine Ursprünge im Cork Union Workhouse und Infirmary, das von George Wilkinson entworfen und 1841 fertiggestellt wurde. Ein großes dreistöckiges Gebäude wurde im Norden des Geländes hinzugefügt. Die Einrichtung wurde 1898 zum Cork District Hospital und später zum Cork County Home and Hospital. Es wurde 1923 durch ministeriellen Beschluss als verantwortlich für die Behandlung von medizinischen, chirurgischen und geburtshilflichen Fällen sowie von Fällen mit ansteckenden und infektiösen Krankheiten festgelegt.
