Während dieser vorletzten Eiszeit schoben die Gletscher große Moränen auf, wie die Moräne der Veluwe. Während der letzten Eiszeit gab es zwar keine Eisbedeckung, aber es war hier trotzdem ziemlich kalt und es wuchs wenig, das den Boden schützte. Die heftigen Winde bliesen den Sand auf und setzten ihn an vielen Orten ab. Manchmal wurde er als kilometerlange sich schlängelnde Rücken abgelagert, wie die von den Renderklippen.
