During the last ice age, the Netherlands was not covered with glaciers as it was during the penultimate ice age. During the penultimate ice age, the glaciers pushed up large moraines, such as the lateral moraine of the Veluwe. During the last ice age there was no ice cover, but it was still quite cold and there was little growth that damaged the ground. The strong winds blew up the sand and deposited it in many places. Sometimes it was deposited as kilometre-long meandering ridges such as this one of the Renderklippen.
