Simpelveld liegt an der sogenannten Millionenlinie, die damals für den Transport von Steinkohle aus den Bergwerken angelegt wurde und heute nur noch eine touristische Funktion hat. Auf dieser Strecke fährt nun während der Sommermonate und an Sonntagen ein Dampfzug der Zuid-Limburgse Stoomtrein Maatschappij. Bei Simpelveld zweigt von dieser Linie eine weitere Strecke in Richtung Bocholtz und dem deutschen Vetschau ab. Auf dieser Linie fährt ein Schienenbus. Sie führte ursprünglich bis zur Stadt Aachen, aber dieser Abschnitt ist seit 1992 außer Betrieb.
