Simpelveld est situé sur la soi-disant Ligne des Millions, qui a été construite à l'époque pour le transport de charbon provenant des mines et qui a aujourd'hui seulement une fonction touristique. Sur cette ligne circule maintenant, durant les mois d'été et les dimanches, un train à vapeur de la Société de Trains à Vapeur du Sud-Limbourg. De cette ligne, une autre ligne se dirige vers Bocholtz et la ville allemande de Vetschau. Sur cette ligne, une autorail circule. Elle menait à l'origine jusqu'à la ville d'Aix-la-Chapelle, mais cette partie est hors service depuis 1992.
