Wenn die Steine der Kirche von Waterlandkerkje sprechen könnten... Die Geschichte dieses lieblichen Dorfes birgt eine gewaltsame Erzählung, an die die Holzstatue vor der Kirche erinnert. Es wurde für den 1668 ermordeten Pastor Johannes Steuerbaudt errichtet. Einige Kilometer südlicher hatte er in Stroopuit gepredigt. Die Katholiken sahen das als Provokation, da sie das Gehöft als Teil ihres Territoriums betrachteten. Rasend vor Wut zogen sie den Pastor von seiner Kanzel und lynchten ihn.
