Si las piedras de la iglesia de Waterlandkerkje pudieran hablar... La historia de este encantador pueblito alberga una historia violenta que recuerda la estatua de madera frente a la iglesia. Fue erigida en memoria del ministro Johannes Steuerbaudt, asesinado en 1668. A pocos kilómetros al sur, él había predicado en Stroopuit. Los católicos vieron esto como una provocación, ya que consideraban la aldea como parte de su territorio. Llenos de furia, arrastraron al ministro de su púlpito y lo lincharon.
