Se le pietre della chiesa di Waterlandkerkje potessero parlare... La storia di questo delizioso paesino nasconde una storia violenta alla quale ricorda la statua di legno davanti alla chiesa. È stata eretta in memoria del reverendo Johannes Steuerbaudt, assassinato nel 1668. Alcuni chilometri più a sud, aveva predicato a Stroopuit. I cattolici lo vedevano come una provocazione, poiché consideravano il villaggio parte del loro territorio. Furiosi, trascinarono il reverendo giù dal suo pulpito e lo linciarono.
