Elim ist ein Dorf in der Gemeinde Hoogeveen, das in der niederländischen Provinz Drenthe liegt. Das Dorf zählt ungefähr 2.335 Einwohner. Elim war, wie viele Orte in der Umgebung, ursprünglich ein unzugängliches Moorgebiet. Ab 1631 war das Gebiet, auf dem Elim und auch andere Moordörfer in der Umgebung liegen, im Besitz der Compagnie der 5000 Morgen. Nachdem das Gebiet von der Holländischen Kompanie übernommen worden war, erhielt es den Namen Hollandscheveld. In den 80er Jahren des 18. Jahrhunderts begann der Torfabbau in dem Gebiet, in dem sich heute Elim befindet. Das Jahr 1786 gilt als das Geburtsdatum von Elim, da sich dort damals endgültig Bewohner niederließen.
