Am Ende des dreizehnten Jahrhunderts begann man mit dem Bau einer aus Tuffstein errichteten Saalkirche. An der Nordseite gab es einen Anbau, der als Sakristei diente. Der Turm bestand ebenfalls aus Tuffstein. Nach 1450 wurde die romanische Kirche im spätgotischen Stil mit Ziegeln zu einer Pseudobasilika mit zwei Seitenschiffen erweitert, die von einem hölzernen Tonnengewölbe gedeckt waren. Der fünfundfünfzig Meter hohe Turm wurde 1527 erbaut, in einem Stil, der von dem Utrechter Domturm abgeleitet war. Ein nahezu identischer Turm wurde in Eemnes-Buiten erbaut. Im siebzehnten Jahrhundert wurde an der Südseite eine Kapelle angebaut.
