Graauw wurde bereits am Ende des 13. Jahrhunderts erwähnt. In der 19. Jahrhundert Kirche des Dorfes hängt eine Glocke, die auf besondere Weise das Wohl und insbesondere das Weh der Region symbolisiert. Es handelt sich um die Läuteglocke des damals existierenden Dorfes Namen, das 1715 bei einer Überschwemmung ertrank. Jetzt liegt das Dörfchen unter einer dicken Schicht Schlamm im Verdronkenen Land von Saeftinghe, das in vogel´s Flug etwa zwei Kilometer weiter vor dir liegt. Dieses 3000 Hektar große Naturschutzgebiet besteht hauptsächlich aus Ufergebieten, Watt und Wasserläufen und bietet einen dauerhaften, sicheren Lebensraum für zahlreiche Brutvögel und eine vielfältige Flora. Wenn du das Verdronkene Land von Saeftinghe erkunden möchtest, solltest du dich am besten führen lassen, denn der Boden und die plötzlich auftretende Tide können sehr tückisch sein.
