Der Tilgrup ist ein weitgehend kanalisierter Bach, der von Nordost nach Südwest entlang der Forstämter Appelscha und Smilde und durch das Dieverveld zur Vledder Aa fließt. Teilweise bildet der Bach die Grenze zwischen den Provinzen Friesland und Drenthe. Ein Teil des Einzugsgebiets des Baches gehört zum Naturpark Drents-Friese Wold. Der Bach wurde Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts kanalisiert, um zusammen mit der Vledder Aa für die Entwässerung des Gebiets im Südwesten von Smilde zu sorgen.
