Il Tilgrup è un torrente in gran parte canalizzato, che scorre da nord-est a sud-ovest attraverso le foreste Appelscha e Smilde e attraverso il Dieverveld fino all'Aa di Vledder. In parte, il torrente forma il confine tra le province di Frisia e Drenthe. Una parte del bacino idrografico del torrente fa parte del parco naturale Drents-Friese Wold. Il torrente è stato canalizzato a metà del XX secolo per garantire, insieme all'Aa di Vledder, il drenaggio dell'area a sud-ovest di Smilde.
