St. Johann im Walde is a municipality with 306 inhabitants in the district of Lienz in Tyrol, Austria. The municipality is located in the Lienz judicial district. St. Johann im Walde lies in the upper Isel valley between Ainet and Huben. The Isel river flows through St. Johann im Walde. The most important tributaries are the Michelbach in the west and the Leibnitzbach in the east. The valley floor is at an elevation of 740 meters above sea level. To the west, the municipal area rises to the Villgratner mountains. The highest peaks of the municipality are the Hohe Stierbichl and the Teblenspitze. To the east lies the Schober group with Kreuzspitze and the Rotspitzen.
