The Karmeliterplatz is a square in the first district of Graz, Innere Stadt, and was named after the former Carmelite monastery.
The square is located between Sporgasse, Hartigasse, and Paulustorgasse. To the east, it borders the Peacock Garden. The Karmeliterplatz was laid out from 1578 by Archduke Karl II and was planned as the center of an urban expansion. It is a large rectangular area and features a closed development from the 17th century on the north and south sides. Until the founding of the Carmelite monastery in 1629 by Emperor Ferdinand II, the Karmeliterplatz was known as Platz gegen die Burg. From 1938 to 1945, it was renamed Rudolf-Erlbacher-Platz.
