Bannberg is a place in the Tyrolean Pustertal as well as a district and cadastral municipality of the municipality of Assling in the district of Lienz. Bannberg forms the easternmost part of the municipality, about 6 kilometers downstream from Assling, and the same distance upstream from Lienz. The location is on the northern side of the Pustertal, on the valley terrace at around 1260 meters above sea level. It constitutes its own village and comprises 50 buildings with about 120 inhabitants. The village is traversed by the Pustertaler Höhenstraße, and the houses located further down are referred to as Unterdorf.
