Bannberg is een plaats in het Tiroler Pustertal, evenals een wijk en kadastrale gemeente van de gemeente Assling in het district Lienz. Bannberg vormt het oostelijkste deel van de gemeente, ongeveer 6 kilometer stroomafwaarts van Assling, even ver stroomopwaarts van Lienz. De plaats ligt aan de noordzijde van het Pustertal, op de dalterrassen op ongeveer 1260 m boven zeeniveau. Het vormt een eigen dorpskern en omvat 50 gebouwen met ongeveer 120 inwoners. Het dorp wordt doorkruist door de Pustertaler Hoogteweg, de huizen die lager gelegen zijn, worden het Onder-Dorp genoemd.
