Montafonhuisweg

The Montafonerhausweg shows the special features of typical residential and commercial buildings, as they were built in the valley from the 15th to the 20th century. They are inextricably linked to the Montafon cultural landscape. From the city center it goes into the valley, then above the village with a view of the Vallüla on the sunny side. On the way back, it is worth taking a detour to the Balbier waterfall in Gortipohl.

What makes a Montafon house special? This path shows the peculiarities of typical residential and farm buildings, as they were built in the valley from the 15th to the 20th century. They are inextricably linked to the Montafon cultural landscape. At five different stations, a characteristic feature of a Montafon house is explained. This makes it easy to recognize the elements in other buildings in the valley in hindsight. Many of the houses are architecturally and locally very valuable and are carefully maintained by their owners.

Directions

The leisurely circular hike starts at St. Nicholas Church in Gortipohl. From there it continues into the valley under the grammar school to the main road. When you arrive at the main road, turn left out of the road. After about 200 meters, turn left across the meadow until you reach the next hiking trail sign. Here you follow the meadow path in the direction of Aussergan. After crossing the second stream, it goes parallel to the stream down to the plague chapel. Once you arrive at the Plague Chapel, you head back towards Gortipohl to the starting point.
