A beguinage, a Brabantine Gothic-style church built in the 14th century and its older Romanesque crypt: from the 11th century onwards, the municipality slowly became a coherent urbanised area, initially as a religious centre, under the aegis of Saint Guido in particular, who is depicted on the municipality’s coat of arms. It is in this same district that we also find traces of Erasmus. The humanist philosopher settled in Anderlecht in the 16th century and the ‘Erasmus House’ (open to visitors) is a reminder of this. In the underbelly of Anderlecht there is little greenery, but just like that, we have just peddled our way through the most urban part of our tour. As we return to the canal, buildings make way for more and more greenery.
