Poppel is a village in the municipality of Ravels. It has 3750 inhabitants (end of 2005) and the village borders the Netherlands. A large part of the population of Poppel consists of immigrants from the Netherlands.
There is a church with a tower from the 16th century. Poppel used to be an independent municipality, which is part of the municipality of Ravels. The monumental former town hall from 1908 is a reminder of this independence.
The former municipality also included the hamlet of Nieuwkerk, which is located in the woods on the border with the Netherlands and which owes its existence to a border church that was built there in 1652 for the benefit of the parish of Goirle.
