Grain distillery Filliers. The only remaining artisanal distillery in the region of Deinze, which had around 26 distilleries around 1900. Until 1975, an actual agricultural distillery with a complete ecological cycle where the byproducts of distillation served as animal feed and the animal manure was used to fertilize the land. The current company Filliers started in 1880 when Camille Filliers took over his uncle Ferdinand's distillery and applied to begin a steam distillery in his mother’s former starch factory next to the parental farm. In 1898, it moved to a new (the current) distillery building established behind the parental farm at the Rekkelingebeek. It was repeatedly expanded throughout the 20th century, notably around 1911, 1922, and 1945. The building facing the main road (now two residences) consists of nine bays and one story under a mansard roof (tiles, ridge parallel to the street), dating back to the first quarter of the 19th century. Cemented façades with rectangular windows and rectangular and slightly arched door framed in cement. Side façades with arched upper windows and an oculus. Behind it is the distillery building and former stables of the farm. Brick distillery building with four stories under a gable roof (tiles, ridge perpendicular to the street) featuring wide windows and a loading door with hoisting beam for the grain attic. Behind it stands a preserved tall round brick chimney on a square base of the steam engine that was dismantled in 1945. The preserved artisanal installation from 1919 with manually operated equipment featuring a distillation column, two fermentation tubs, and a special aging warehouse where the aging of grain gin takes place in oak barrels at room temperature.
